Welcome to Chautauqua County New York SAR Chapter

We are located in beautiful Chautauqua County, New York. Chautauqua County is the most western county of New York State. It is bordered on the South and West by the state of Pennsylvania, to the North by Lake Erie and to the East by the county of Cattaraugus. Chautauqua County is well served by Interstates 90 and 86. Jamestown is the largest city in Chautauqua County.

Between 1850 and 1855 many Immigrants came up the Hudson from the Port of New York found themselves stranded without money, food or shelter. Over 7500 travelers were aided by the good people of Chautauqua County as it became known as the “Gateway to the West”.
